Strength doesn’t always look like pushing harder.
Fire & Ice invites women to explore the balance between effort and ease, courage and surrender, movement and rest. Strength can look like slowing down, having fun, and trusting in yourself sliding sideways on a frozen lake.
- Balance: Practice holding opposing forces with grace.
- Play: Rediscover joy without needing to perform.
- Challenge: Learn car control in one of the safest, most forgiving environments.
- Belonging: Share the experience alongside remarkable women.

What women are saying
I felt stuck and frustrated when I arrived. Quickly, these feelings shifted toward empowerment as I realized I could trust myself to decide where I go next and to deal with whatever comes.
Kelly, Published Author & Mother
When describing this experience to a loved one, I would tell them it was an opportunity to feel genuinely held by new best friends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have to apply?
We intentionally keep each retreat to 8 or fewer women. Given the smaller size, we review every application and speak with each woman directly to ensure we’re creating a group that can challenge, support, and learn from one another.
What does the schedule look like?
Because each cohort is different, the final schedule is shaped around the women attending. While the details evolve, the overall rhythm remains consistent:
- Thursday: Arrive & settle
- Friday: Grounding, connection, and reflection
- Saturday: Ice driving in Subarus with studded tires on Dollar Lake
- Sunday: Integration
- Monday: Departure
What kind of driving experience do I need?
You only need a valid drivers license! All the cars are stock Subaru WRX with factory settings and then equipped with studded tires. Prior performance driving experience is not necessary.
Is this a driving school?
No. Twin Redwoods is not a driving school. It’s a fully guided retreat that uses Ice Driving as one of several experiences designed to help you build confidence when faced with uncertainty.
Why Ice Driving?
When a car loses traction, your nervous system reacts before your mind does. Instead of avoiding that response, we create a safe environment to observe it, work with it, and discover that calm, curiosity, and confidence can exist even in uncertainty.
Ice Driving isn’t the destination, it’s the training ground (that’s also a heck of a lot of fun!).
Do I need to bring anything?
A packing list will be provided a few weeks before the retreat based on weather and the final schedule. Helmets, yoga mats, and any other gear will be provided. However, if you have your own helmet and gear that you’d like to bring, you’re more than welcome.
